Good morning! It has been a while since I last posted, and I’m so excited to show you what I’ve been up to.
I crochet and cross stitch, but so far I’ve only shown a few of my crochet projects – so this time, I’m going to show you a cross stitch one!
I’ve the idea of a shop sign for some time now, and was doodling around when I thought about with an alternative to the traditional Open and Closed sign – what about Hello and Goodbye? I think the latter makes more sense in terms of the customer’s point of view – a “Hello” at the door, and a “Goodbye” when they’re leaving. (In your opinion, yea or nay? Let me know in the comments 🙂 )
Anyway, I started with this…
And then it blossomed into this…
And finally this:
Isn’t it amazing how backstitching contributes to the overall look? (For those who don’t know what backstitching is, it is the outline around the letters. Compare the last picture with the second and you’ll see what I mean)
I’m pretty happy with what I’ve come up with. I love the effect of the arrow, and I think it is not only eye-pleasing, but also (perhaps?) directs the customer to the door handle (if it so happens to be inconspicuous). I’m also planning one with the arrowhead on the right. When I’m done with that I’ll put them up side by side and you can compare!
Also, if you’re wondering what I used…
14 count Aida cloth (colour: ecru)
Black thread (yes, traditionally embroidery floss is used, but I thought I’d try something different, and I have to say, I like the look of it!)
Opinions? Comments? I look forward to hearing them 🙂
Until next time!
P.S. I will predominantly be using Instagram to display my WIPs (Works In Progress) and WordPress (here!) when I’ve finished them. Even if you don’t have an Instagram account, you will still be able to see what I’m posting – just scroll down to the bottom of my site, click on the cute little black circle with a + and you’ll see my Instagram feed 🙂
